Cutting Instructions
From the dark purple, cut:
(2) 2 ½” x 2 ½” squares
From the purple fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
(1) 2 ½” x 2 ½” square
From the light purple fabric, cut:
(4) 2 1/8” x 2 1/8” squares
From the yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
From the light yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
From the background fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
(4) 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
(2) 2 ½” x 2 ½” squares
Assembly
Split Quarter Square Triangles
Mark the backs of the background 2 1/2″ squares in half diagonally once. Layer with a dark purple 2 1/2″ square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line to make two Half Square Triangles.
Mark the backs of the light purple 2 ⅛” squares from corner to corner. Layer a marked square with a background/dark purple Half Square Triangle. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Repeat with the remaining Half Square Triangles.
Trim to 1 1/2″ square. Make 8 Split Quarter Square Triangles.
Sew two facing Split Quarter Square Triangles together as shown above. Make 4.
Square in a Square
Mark the wrong side of the yellow 1 1/2” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a purple 2 1/2” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners.
Unit measures 2 1/2″ square.
Block Assembly
Use the block diagram above to layout the block into three rows. Sew the units into rows.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 6 ½” x 6 ½” unfinished.
