This year we invite you to join us as we celebrate 35 years of quilting, 35 years of quilters, and 35 years of AQS inspiring, educating, and nurturing quilters who love quilting. Here’s to the next 35!
In this series, we start in 1985 and work our way to 2019 taking a look at the quilting world through our unique perspective. Enjoy the beautiful quilts and marvel at the amazing heritage quilting is because of you, the quilter.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”15″ height_on_tabs=”10″ height_on_tabs_portrait=”10″ height_on_mob_landscape=”10″ height_on_mob=”10″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_single_image image=”59812″ img_size=”medium” onclick=”link_image”][ultimate_spacer height=”15″ height_on_tabs=”5″ height_on_tabs_portrait=”5″ height_on_mob_landscape=”5″ height_on_mob=”5″][vc_single_image image=”59813″ img_size=”medium” onclick=”link_image”][ultimate_spacer height=”15″ height_on_tabs=”5″ height_on_tabs_portrait=”5″ height_on_mob_landscape=”5″ height_on_mob=”5″][vc_single_image image=”59814″ img_size=”medium” onclick=”link_image”][ultimate_spacer height=”15″ height_on_tabs=”5″ height_on_tabs_portrait=”5″ height_on_mob_landscape=”5″ height_on_mob=”5″][vc_single_image image=”59815″ img_size=”medium” onclick=”link_image”][ultimate_spacer height=”15″ height_on_tabs=”5″ height_on_tabs_portrait=”5″ height_on_mob_landscape=”5″ height_on_mob=”5″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]American Quilter Magazine

I’ll never forget going to Paducah and seeing such high quality quilts. The magazine was always my favorite. I looked at them over and over and practically memorized each quilt. The quilt show issue was the best! Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem so special now with so many exhibits all over the country.
I totally agree. I kept every one of the “show” issues. I’m especially disappointed to see the same quilts winning awards at multiple AQS shows. It seems like AQS has become a show for professional quilters who quilt for profit. I enjoy the first entries, loved the “amateur” categories from years ago.
First of all I love that as a quilter I am celebrating my 35 wedding anniversary with your 35 anniversary. I was not quilting in 1989 however I did do some cross stitching and hand sewing at that time. I started making quilts in 2012 when I was trying to come up with a special gift for my parents 50th anniversary. I had been wanting to do some sewing and I got this great idea to make them a quilt. I had no idea what I was doing and seen a quilt that was called a brick pattern. Thus a quilter was born. I have learned so much from magazines, blogs etc… like yours over the years. I will try to get a picture of it and post it.
I think the colors have changed the most, everything is so much brighter and colorful now. Some people still stick to the older traditional looking quilts but the explosion of self-creating new looks is amazing. Also the actual quilting of the finished quilts has gotten very creative. I have only been going to the Paducah exhibit for about 25 years but remember my first visit being so awed by all the talent and the many, many venders! I believe my first time there i probably took a picture of every single quilt, I didn’t want to forget a single quilt! I miss the original Convention Center.
Thank you for the pic of Spring Flower Basket by Janice R. Streeter. It was my mother’s favorite quilt ever. She said that if she had made that quilt she would have to move to Paducah so she could see the quilt every day. It’s always nice to remember Momma.
