Last week we looked at classic Log Cabin block variations (click here for patterns). This week things get a little lopsided playing with Uneven Log Cabin block variations.

Uneven Log Cabin

Cutting Instructions
From the center square fabric, cut:
(1) 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ square
From the large log fabrics, cut:
(1) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 2 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 2 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 2 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 2 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle
From the small log fabrics, cut:
(1) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 1 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 1 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 1 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ rectangle
Block Assembly
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle to the bottom of the 3 1/2″ square. Sew the 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle to the right side of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle to the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the unit.
Unit measures 6 1/2″ square.
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle to the bottom of the previous unit. Sew the 1 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle to the right side of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the unit.
Unit measures 9 1/2″ square.
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle to the bottom of the previous unit. Sew the 1 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ rectangle to the right side of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the unit.
Block measures 12 1/2″ square.

Sew the 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the 3 1/2″ square. Sew the 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit.
Unit measures 6 1/2″ square.
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the previous unit. Sew the 1 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit.
Unit measures 9 1/2″ square.
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the previous unit. Sew the 1 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ rectangle to the left side of the unit. Sew the 2 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle to the top of the unit.
Block measures 12 1/2″ square.

From the large log fabrics, cut:
(1) 3″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle

From the medium log fabrics, cut:
(1) 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangle
From the small log fabrics, cut:
(1) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle
Block Assembly
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles to the left and right sides of the 3 1/2″ square. Sew the 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles to the top and bottom of the unit.
Unit measures 4 1/2″ square.
Sew the 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles to the left and right sides of the unit. Sew the 2″ x 7 1/2″ rectangles to the top and bottom of the unit.
Unit measures 7 1/2″ square.
Sew the 3″ x 7 1/2″ rectangles to the left and right sides of the unit. Sew the 3″ x 12 1/2″ rectangles to the top and bottom of the unit.
Block measures 12 1/2″ square.
