Cutting Instructions
From the teal fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(20) 1½” x 1½” squares
(32) 1″ x 1″ squares
(8) 1½” x 2″ rectangle
(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
From the dark sky fabric, cut:
(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(8) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(9) 1½” x 1½” squares
(8) 1″ x 1″ squares
Unit Assembly
Half Square Triangles
Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 4.
Mark the wrong side of the white 1½” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a teal 1½” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Trim unit to 1″ square. Make 8.
Flying Geese
Mark the wrong side of a teal 1″ square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a dark sky 1″ x 1½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1″ square on the other end of the triangle.
Unit measures 1″ x 1½” rectangle. Make 4.
Mark the wrong side of the teal 1½” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a dark sky 1½” x 2½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1½” square on the other end of the triangle.
Unit measures 1½” x 2½” rectangle. Make 8.
Flip Unit
Mark the wrong side of a teal 1” square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a white 1½” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press.
Unit measures 1½” square. Make 4.
Square in a Square
Mark the wrong side of a teal 1” square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a white 1½” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners.
Unit measures 1½” square. Make 1.
Block Assembly
Middle Section
Sew a teal 1″ square to each side a small dark sky/teal Flying Geese. Sew to large dark sky/teal Flying Geese together as shown below. Sew the small Flying Geese with squares to the bottom of this unit as shown below.
Unit measures 3″ square. Make 4.
Block Corner
Layout a Flip unit and two small white/teal HST along with two teal and one white 1″ squares as shown below. Sew the teal squares to the HST. Sew one set to the side of the Flip unit. Sew a white square to the end of the remaining unit and sew to the bottom of the Corner unit.
Unit measures 2″ square. Make 4.
Sew a teal 1½” x 2″ rectangle to the side of the previous unit as shown below. Sew a large white/teal HST to the end of another teal 1½” x 2″ rectangle. Sew this to the top of the Corner unit.
Unit measures 3″ square. Make 4.
Block Center
Sew a white 1″ square to each side of a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle. Repeat to make 2.
Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to each side of the Square in a Square unit.
Layout the unit as shown below and sew the rows together to complete the block center.
Unit measures teal 2½” square. Make 1.
Putting it all together…
Layout the block sections as shown below and sew the into rows. Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 7½” square.
