Setting & Border Instructions
Cutting Instructions
From the red fabric, cut:
(21) 2½” x Width of Fabric (WOF) strips and subcut into:
- (8) 2½” x 16½”
- (26) 2½” x 12½”
- (26) 2½” x 8½”
- (4) 2½” x 4½”
- (52) 2½” x 2½”
From the white fabric, cut:
(7) 3½” x WOF sewn into a continuous strip and subcut into:
- (2) 3½” x 70½”
- (2) 3½” x 64½”
(15) 2½” x WOF strips and subcut into:
- (60) 2½” x 8½”
From the binding fabric, cut:
(8) 2½” x WOF strips
Setting Instructions
Red Blocks (Blocks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, and 25)
Sew a red 2½” x 8½” strip to the left and right side of an odd numbered 8½” x 8½” block. Press towards the red strips. Sew a red 2½” x 12½” strip to the top and bottom of the block. Press towards the red strips.
Red blocks measure 12½” x 12½” unfinished. Repeat on all the odd numbered blocks.
White Blocks (Block 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24)
Sew a cream 2½” x 8½” strip to the left and right side of even numbered 8½” x 8½” blocks. Press towards the cream strips.
Sew a red 2½” square to both ends of a cream 2½” x 8½” and press towards the cream strip. Make 2. Sew to the top and bottom of the block and press.
White blocks measure 12½” x 12½” unfinished. Repeat on all the even numbered blocks.
Quilt Center
Lay out the blocks in five rows of five, alternating red and white blocks as shown.
Sew the blocks into rows. Then sew the rows together to create the quilt center. Quilt center measures 60½” x 60½” unfinished.
Inner Borders
Sew together a cream 2½” x 8½” strip, a red 2½” x 16½” strip, cream 2½” x 8½” strip, a red 2½” x 16½” strip, and a cream 2½” x 8½” strip. Make 4 Inner Borders.
Sew a red 2½” x 4½” strip to each end of an Inner Border strip. Repeat to make 2 Top & Bottom Inner Border strips.
Sew a red 2½” x 2½” square to each end of an Inner Border strip. Repeat to make 2 Left & Right Inner Border strips.
Sew the Left & Right Inner Border strips to the sides of the quilt center. Then sew the Top & Bottom Inner Border strips to the quilt.
Outer Border
Sew the cream 3½” x 64½” strips to the sides of the quilt center. Then sew the cream 3½” x 70½” strips to the quilt.
Quilt as desired and bind using your preferred method.
