There are so many amazing aspects to Ronda Beyer’s Essence quilt, which won the Best Longarm Workmanship Award at the AQS Quilt Show & Contest in Knoxville this summer. From the quietly elegant fabrics to the incredible original quilting designs, the quilt entices viewers to stop and savor every detail.
The beautifully crafted scalloped outer edge adds a lovely frame to the quilt, which hangs straight and firm. Here is Ronda’s secret to perfect scalloped edges: “When snipping the inverted v’s, only snip the quilt backing and batting, never snip the quilt top itself. This gives the scallops structure and they will never droop when your quilt is hanging.” Great tip, Ronda!
Photos and descriptions of all the winning quilts from the Knoxville show are in the November 2011 issue of American Quilter magazine.
