The AQS Quilt 2018 project for June is Broderie Perse!
At the beginning of the year, you made a list of all the quilt making techniques you’d like to try in 2018 and put them in a jar. Then, you chose your own personal color of the year. You are ready!
If you missed last month’s project, check it out. We created Pictorial quilts.
Our style for this month is Broderie Perse Quilts.
Broderie Perse quilts employ a style of applique using elements taken from other fabrics and decoupages them together to create the main focus of the quilt.
Below are examples of Broiderie Perse quilts from finalists in Spring Paducah Quilt Contests:
Draw your technique from your jar, think about clever ways to play with your color of the year, and start creating.
Next week we will dive into techniques to play with, there are so many to try.
Give us a shout in the comments below letting us know your technique of choice or share with us on our Facebook group AQS Project Parade.
Let’s get started!
That’s my quilt! That’s exactly what I was thinking when I opened the June 2018 AQS Newsletter e-mail this morning! I am thrilled beyond belief to see my quilt “Room with a View” in your newsletter. I used 6 fabric panels for this quilt, with a background fabric from the same collection as the panel with the turtle and octopus. I used 2 of the same panel for the top row merging and changing pieces, and replaced the entire sky. I used several fish, seahorse, and jellyfish fabrics to get the look I wanted. I added the blue marlin in the upper left area for my husband, an avid fisherman. The sashing and outer border are all cut from one piece of fabric. thank you so much for featuring my quilt! – Patricia Dever, Anacortes, WA
Hi Patricia, And such an amazing quilt it is!!! It’s everything about broderie perse I love. Thank you for sharing about the process! Thanks, Betsey
I also found the article over-promised and I DID click the reference to the project and that article also was a fail. A blog that is nothing but grand references and no content is not what I expected from AQS. Why bother? Just how does AQS expect us to use this blog?
Hi Jes, Thank you for your response. We are sorry this article didn’t meet expectations. Hopefully you will enjoy next week’s. Thanks, Betsey
