Fabric Requirement per Placemat
Red Fabric – 1/4 yard
White Fabric – Fat Quarter
Backing Fabric – Fat Quarter
One 4 1/2″ unfinished block
Batting
Cutting Instructions
From the red fabric, cut:
(2) 18 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangles
(2) 10 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangles
(1) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
(1) 3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle
(2) 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangles
(2) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles
From the white fabric, cut:
(1) 4″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 12″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 4″ x 3 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 3″ X 3 1/2″ rectangle
(1) 9 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ square
Assembly
Block Unit
Sew a red 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle to each side of the 4 1/2″ block. Sew a red 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle to the top and bottom of the block.
Sew a white 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle to the side of the block unit using the diagram below for placement.
Top Row
Using the diagram below as a guide, sew the 4″ x 1 ” white rectangle to the 1 1/2″ red square. Sew the 12″ x 1 1/2″ white rectangle to the other side.
Below Block Unit
Using the diagram below as a guide, sew the 4″ x 3 1/2″ white rectangle to the 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ red rectangle. Sew the 3″ x 3 1/2″ white rectangle to the other side.
Using the diagram below, assemble the units to complete the placemat center.
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ rectangles to each side of the placemat center.
Sew the 1 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ rectangles to the top and bottom of the placemat center.
Finishing
Lay the front of the placemat on top of a 12″ x 18″ rectangle of batting.
Lay the 12 1/2″ x 19 1/2″ backing rectangle on the top of the front of the placemat, right sides together.
Sew around the edges of the placemat leaving a hole for turning.
Trim the corners and turn the placemat right side out.
Stitch the hole closed. Quilt as desired.
Three Blocks Placemat or Pillow
12″ x 18″ (Pillow 18″ x 18″)
Fabric Requirements per Placemat
Red Fabric – 1/4 yard
White Fabric – 1/8 yard
Backing – Fat Quarter
Three 4 1/2″ unfinished blocks
Batting
Cutting Instructions
From the red fabric, cut:
(2) 18 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles (for the pillow cut these 18 1/2″ by 5 1/2″)
(2) 18 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangles
(2) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles
(2) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles
From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 18 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangles
Assembly
Using the color diagram above as a guide, sew a 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ red rectangle strip to each side of the center 4 1/2″ block. Sew a block to each side of the previous unit.
Sew the 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ red rectangles to each end of the row.
Sew a 1 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ red rectangle to the top and bottom of the row.
Sew a 1 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ white rectangle to the top and bottom of the row.
Sew a 2 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ red rectangle to the top and bottom of the row to complete the placemat.
Finishing
Lay the front of the placemat on top of a 12″ x 18″ rectangle of batting.
Lay the 12 1/2″ x 19 1/2″ backing rectangle on the top of the front of the placemat, right sides together.
Sew around the edges of the placemat leaving a hole for turning.
Trim the corners and turn the placemat right side out.
Stitch the hole closed. Quilt as desired.
Block Wrap Pillow
18″ x 18″
Fabric Requirements
Red Fabric – 1/4 yard
White Fabric – 1/8 yard
Backing – 2/3 yard
Stuffing
Cutting Instructions
From the red fabric, cut:
(2) 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ squares
(2) 6 1/2″ x 11 1/2″ rectangles
(2) 6 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles
From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle
(4) 11 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle
Assembly
Sew a 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ red square to a 6 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ white rectangle. Sew a 6 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ red rectangle to the white rectangle. Make 2.
Sew a 11 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ white rectangle to a 11 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ red rectangle. Make 2.
Using the diagram above, assemble the units together with the 4 1/2″ block.
Finishing
Lay the pillow front on top of the 18″ x 18″ batting square. Quilt as desired.
Lay the backing on the top of the pillow front, right sides together. Sew around the edge of the quilt leaving a hole for turning and stuffing.
Turn, stuff, and stitch the hole closed.
