Practice your Snowball unit with this easy Snowball variation precut quilt. Whether you are just learning how to quilt or looking for a quick and easy project, this quilt offers simple construction with the prep cutting done for you using 10″ precut squares. Fabric Requirements
(2) William Morris 10″ x 10″ Fabric Squares Packs
Or (70) 10″ squares
- 14 light value
- 56 medium and dark value
Backing – 5 yards cut into (2) 2 yard sections and sewn together
Binding – 5/8 yards cut into (8) 2 1/2″ x Width of Fabric strips
Fabric Preparation
Sort fabrics into light and dark. Choose 14 light fabrics and cut them half twice to make (56) 5″ x 5″ squares. Mark the back side of the 5″ squares in half diagonally once.
Set aside (28) medium and dark value 10″ squares for the setting squares. The remaining 28 medium and dark value squares are for the Snowball Variation blocks.
Snowball Variation Block Assembly
Lay a marked light value 5″ square over a 10″ square as shown below and sew on the marked line. Repeat on the diagonally opposite corner.
Trim the excess a quarter inch from the sewn line and press. Make 28 of the Snowball Variation blocks.
Quilt Assembly
Lay out the quilt in seven rows, eight blocks per row, and alternate between Snowball Variation blocks and 10″ Setting Squares.
Sew the rows together, pressing in alternate directions. Sew the rows together.
Layer the top with batting and backing. Quilt as desired. Bind using preferred method.
