This quilt is a part of our One Block Quilt series. Take a look at the other quilts in this series.
I don’t see a background fabric amount listed in the “needed” fabrics. Was it forgotten?
Hi Joy, You will need 2 yards of the background fabric. Hope you enjoy the pattern! Thanks, Betsey
Wish the PDF of the pattern included a picture of the finished Quilt! Not user friendly in that regard!!!
Hi Laurie, Click on the green words: print friendly, in order to use the printing plug in. It allows you to include images or not. If you prefer, you can also use your own printer’s settings to print our free patterns. Please feel free to email me at betsey.langford@americanquilter.com if you continue to have issues. Thanks, Betsey
When you click on the print for the pattern, the whole Archives print out! would be nice to have it set up so that only the patteern prints. Jean
Hi Jean, Click on the green ‘print friendly’ words at the bottom of the pattern. This opens a print window that includes the article without the sidebar. You can change the settings at the top and in your printer settings as well. Hopefully this will help. Thanks, Betsey
The colors used are amazing and I love the pattern. I would like to do a pillow with this pattern. Is it possible to reduce it to a smaller pattern? Thank you for your beautiful work.
Hi Maggie, This pattern adjusts easily. It is based on an 8-grid, so work in multiples of 8. It’s perfect for a 16″ pillow. If you need help, please feel free to email me at betsey.langford@americanquilter.com. A special thanks to my daughter, Emily Cross, for helping with color selection (and a fun sewing day putting it together!) So glad you love the quilt! Enjoy, Betsey
Betsey,
I just finished (well, almost finished) cutting the fabric for this quilt. I did not make any mistakes and cut in the order the pieces were listed. Since I could only get three 11 inch squares from a width of fabric, I did not have enough background fabric. I would recommend amending the pattern to list either 2 1/3 yards for the background (which would be the bare minimum). I used good quality batiks from my local quilt shop.
I’ve never made a one-block quilt before and look forward to making it and donating it to relief efforts for the hurricanes and fires. I’m thinking of making my next charity quilt in red, white and blue in honor of the flag of Texas!
Thank you for a great pattern!
Susan
Thank you for the recommendation Susan! We’ve changed the fabric requirements to reflect 2 1/3 yards. Thanks, Betsey
Thanks, Betsey!
For anyone purchasing fabric to make this quilt, please be advised that 2 yards is not enough background fabric. 2 1/3 or even 2 1/2, if you like to have a little extra, is much better! The quilt is lovely and I’m enjoying making it!
new to this, so plz bear with me. Thinking this would be a great way to use a layer cake, or what’s left of it…..hmm would that make it cake crumbs?…………anyway….hoping for more of a table top size……..how do I apply the “work in 8s” theory, as noted in your previous response to Maggie Carter? I also love the color combinations, reminiscent of autumn in Minnesota.
Hi Ruth, Cake crumbs! I love it! The block is designed on an 8 by 8 grid, that means for this 80″ quilt each section of the block is 10″ finished. This information helps you figure out what size pieces of scrap you will need and help determine the finished size you want. This quilt can easily be made in any multiple of 8…so 32, 40, or 48 would make a nice table size. If you need help adjusting sizes, please feel free to email me: betsey.langford@americanquilter.com. I am happy to help! Thanks, Betsey
I am sorry, but what is the size of this block? Is it really 80 x 80? I was looking for smaller dimensions in the cutting directions, but alas not there. Is this block in any of you issues, as I am a member of AQS and get you magazine. Love your colors.
Hi Robin, Thank you for your interest in the Autumn Medley Quilt. This is a previously unpublished One-block quilt, one giant block making up the whole quilt. Thank you for your kind words. Thanks, Betsey
