Summer Sun Block

Cutting instructions:
From the yellow fabric, cut:
(1) 12” x 12” square
From the orange fabric, cut:
(2) 5 1/4” x 5 1/4” squares
(4) 3 3/4” x 3 3/4” squares
From the blue fabric, cut:
(2) 5 1/4” x 5 1/4” squares
(4) 4 1/2” x 4 1/2” squares
Block Assembly:
Sunny snowball unit:
Draw a diagonal line on the backs of the sun orange 3 3/4” squares.
Lay a marked square right sides together over a corner the sun yellow 12” square. Sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch and press. Repeat on the other corners.
This completes the block center. Trim to 12″ square.
Corner triangle units:
Draw a diagonal line on the backs of the sky blue 5 1/4” squares.
Lay the marked squares, right sides together, on the sun orange 5 1/4” squares. Sew 1/4″ from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press to create a half square triangle. Cut diagonally across the half square triangles to make 8 quarter triangle units.
Sew the quarter triangle units to the blue 4 1/2” squares as shown and repeat to make 4 corner triangle units.
Sew corner triangle units to the sunny snowball unit as shown.
