Countdown to Paducah 2018: Block Eight

Cutting Instructions:
From the white fabric, cut:
(4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles
(8) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
(4) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 2 1/2″ squares
(4) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 2″ x 1 1/4″ rectangles
(8) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/2″ square.
From the dark blue fabric, cut:
(4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
(1) Scrap for foundation piecing larger than 2″ square.
From the light blue fabric, cut:
(4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
(4) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles
(8) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/4″ squares.
From the dark purple fabric, cut:
(8) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
(8) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/4″ squares.

Instructions:
Center
Print out the foundation paper piecing patterns.
Use the patterns on the second page to begin building the center. Complete the three units, then sew them together.
Use a glue stick to attach the unit made in the previous step to the 4 1/2″ square pattern on page 1. Attach the final corner pieces to the center unit.
The center unit measures 4 1/2″ square.
Side Triangles
Paper piece the each of the side triangle units.
The side units each measure 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.
Using the assembly diagram below, finish piecing the block.
