As AQS QuiltWeek – Des Moines approaches, we wrap up another quilt show season. It has been a great year made even more fun by sewing along with you from show to show.
To finish the quilt, cut 2 – 1 1/2″ strips from each show color, sew the ends together to make a long strip, and use it as sashing between the rows.
Here is the entire Show Row Quilt patterns:
Each year, AQS travels across the United States, visiting gorgeous cities and meeting truly wonderful people! It’s a privilege to share our love of quilts and quilting far and wide.

Thank you, looks great.
Can this be printed and shared with my quilt guild?
Hi Kim. Yes, please do. We hope you all have a great time with this project! If you have any questions along the way, contact Betsey Langford at betsey.langford@americanquilter.com. Thanks for following AQS on social media. Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager.
Have always wanted to make a row by row. Love the first block. This may be the one !
I love this idea! It will be so much easier to quilt on domestic machine row by row. I quilt each row and then attach rows right sides only and then stitch back by hand. I love this idea! It’s really exciting to me. Also great to use fabric I have on hand. Thanks so much!
Looks like fun and love the colors you have used as examples.
What would the fabric requirements be if I wanted to used same color scheme for all rows?
Will the fabric for Row By Row, be at all of your quilt shows.
Please make sure I am signed up for this “on point” news letter.
Thank you ,

I didn’t see any instruction for the teal sashing. Is there a width? It’s very pretty so far.
Hi Louise. Glad you like our version of this row by row quilt. I believe Betsey will be including the sashing instruction at the end when it’s all put together. I’ll double check with her about that. Thanks for following AQS on social media. Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager

Haven’t done a row by row yet, so this will be another item off my quilting bucket list.

I have printed out instructions for row #2. The website shows 5 pages but there is nothing on page 4 and page 5. Is there suppose to be more instructions? Thanks you.
Hi Nancy. I have looked into the extra pages. Betsey assures me that they are just extra blank pages that did not get deleted before she loaded the PDF. Sorry about the confusion. We will fix it. Thanks for letting us know. Have fun with row quilt project. Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Medial Manager

Do you have a picture of the full quilt already made that
I can view?
Hi Jennie, Since the concept we are going for in our row quilt project is in line with how mystery quilt projects are made, we will not be revealing the whole quilt yet. I hope you will continue to follow the project. Let me know if you have any other questions. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager.
how many rows are there? & will I get them all on email? I want to do them all. Thank you I am going to enjoy making this project.
Hi Janet. There are 8 rows in this project. Each row is released right before our QuiltWeek® events open. We are in Lancaster, PA, this week. In April we will have our Paducah, KY, event. You can find the QuiltWeek schedule at http://www.quiltweek.com. The rows will be released through our e-newsletter, OnPoint. If you need to sign up for OnPoint, go here: http://bit.ly/1LR3oSQ. I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
First row, Phoenix, assembly of the row, if you follow your directions on putting the lime blocks together, they will not assemble per your instructions…the white rectangles do not match up?? Or am I doing something wrong??
Hi Karon. Thank you for letting us know you are having a problem with this pattern. Betsey took another look and made some changes. Her changes have been uploaded to the site and are ready for download. I hope her changes will help you with this project. Let us know if you need anything else. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
On March 9th you said there would be a new PDF to up load because of an error for row 3 is it up loaded yet?
Hi Janet. I double checked with our designer. Yes, the PDF on the site now is the new one for row 3. Happy Quilting! ~ Sylvia
Has the new PDF for block 3 been made yet?
Yes, Beth. We have the new row 3 PDF loaded and ready! Have fun! ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
Daytona Row, I followed the instructions and my units do not line up. When you turn the unit so that the color (lime) is horizontal (rectangle) the sides do not match the unit with the color (blue) vertical (square). You have to trim the units down a bit to match the sides. When you trim them down, they will not finish to 6×6. Did I do something wrong? Seemed odd to cut white strips to 1-1/8. When I did the math, I ended up with 2-3/4 strip, cut into 2-1/2 units, thus the odd unit size when turning. Thanks.
Hi Jill, We are sorry it took so long to answer. Betsey, the pattern designer, checked the math and everything seemed correct so she wanted to sit down at the sewing machine and make sure she wasn’t missing something. Here is Betsey’s response:
“The Daytona Beach units measure 2 1/2″ square unfinished. Two 1 1/8″ white strips (1 1/8″ + 1 1/8″ = 2 1/4″) and a 1 1/4″ colored strip sew into a 2 1/2″ strip (2 1/4″ + 1 1/4″ = 3 1/2″ – 1″ in seam allowances = 2 1/2″).
Three 2 1/2″ units are sewn together to make a 6 1/2″ row for the block (2 1/2 + 2 1/2 + 2 1/2 = 7 1/2 – 1″ in seam allowances = 6 1/2″).
If everything is cut correctly and a sizing issue persists, I recommend checking seam allowances. When sewn, each white strip will measure 7/8″ and the center strip will measure 3/4″ in a unit. (7/8″ + 7/8″ = 14/8″ + 6/8″ = 20/8″ = 2 1/2″)”
I hope this helps you, Jill. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Just want to say I love this row by row and I have ‘t had any problems! It will be hard to wait from now until next row in July. Thanks, Sandy
Thanks, Sandra. I’d love to see some progress photos! ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
where can I find rows 2 and 3 for the AQS Quilt Week Row Quilt? I have rows 1 and 4, but can’t find the other two on this On Point site. Thanx for your help.
Coleen
Hi Coleen, All the rows are included in this post. If you scroll down through the post, you should see them starting with #4-Paducah, then an assembly diagram, then #3, #2, and finally #1. If that is not what you are seeing, please let me now at sylvia.thomas@americanquilter.com and I’ll see about getting the rows to you another way. Thanks, Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager.
I haven’t gotten the Syracuse Row by Row. Did I miss it?????
Hi Pat, You have not missed it. It is scheduled for release on July 13, 2016. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
merci pour les explications
Love the way the quilt looks. Thank you so much for the patterns and for all your hard work. I have saved the patterns to do later as I’m preparing for a huge move. Is there a file with the fabric requirements and the strip sizes between each row? I’d like to be able to download that information and keep with my file. I know that if I write it down and put it in a “safe place,” I’ll never find them. LOL. Thanks again!
Hi Terri. We do not have the strip sizes in a separate file. This pattern, and blog post, will be on our site for quite a while. I’m sure you will be able to find it when you are ready to make your project. If for some reason you can’t, just drop me an email and I’ll help out, sylvia.thomas@americanquilter.com. Good luck with your move. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
i want to download the patterns. My computer is not co-operating. Are the patterns still available?
Susan Clarke
Hi Susan. We are working on this for you and will send it to you in an email. Have a wonderful weekend! ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
I have loved doing this project! Still have make to Des Moines, and put it together, but it’s s lovely quilt and the directions were perfect. I used your colors, but substituted bees for the withe for my “Quilting Bees”.
What about the binding. I don’t see one in picture.
Hi Betty, You will need 1/2 yard of whatever color you like for the binding. I will be using the blue. Thanks, Betsey
I’m putting the mystery quilt together and am dismayed to find row 7 is an inch shorter than rows 6 and 8.
Hi Betty. Betsey said that with all the seam allowances in this row, it’s easy to get tripped up. If you need to make up some space, try removing some of the vertical seams and resewing them a scant 1/4″ to 1/8″. I know how frustrating it can be when a project goes awry. If you need more assistance, contact Betsey at 270-898-7903, ext 244, or send her an email to betsey.langsford@americanquilter.com. I hope this helps you. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
Beautiful patterns. Thanks so much for sharing. Can’t wait to start my next quilt, Great work Betsey.
I would love to see some of the finished quilts and get ideas on how to quilt this now that the rows are done. I only have a small machine right now so I am thinking I will quilt one row and one sashing strip at a time and then put it all together. I love the way it turned out.
Thank you for the amazing instructions and help.
Thank you for the amazing ideas and instruction.
Merci pour ce modèle que je vais très vite utiliser avec mes restes de tissus 😉 j’aime beaucoup cette structure géométrique
