This month’s free quilt pattern is Buoyancy. You’ll enjoy making the half square triangle blocks that pop color and design in to a sea of square blocks. Place the blocks randomly; there’s no order to the glittering waves on the ocean!
The quilt measures 54″ x 54″ with 4½” finished size blocks.
Our example features the Alex Anderson Chirp fabric collection. It’s also great for charm packs with large motifs.

I love the free quilt pattern of the month! As I was reading through the instructions I believe there is an error. The half square triangle blocks will not finish at 5 inches with instructions given the initial raw half square triangles need to be an inch and three quarter to finish at a 5 inch block with 9 or put together to be able to give you a finished four and a half inch block to match your other finished four and a half inch charm squares. Just wanted to let you know so the error can be corrected thank you so much for your free patterns I really do enjoy themet
Hi Cindy. You are correct! The pattern designer, Betsey, took a look after seeing your comment. Betsey said, “Tell Cindy I’m sorry, I forgot the seam allowance. So crazy, right. I’ll get that fixed as quickly as possible.” Thanks for letting us know Cindy, great catch! We hope you have a fun making Buoyancy! Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
