Cutting Instructions
Only cut the pieces with the * if NOT using the foundation paper piecing patterns.
From the teal fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(8) 1½” x 2″ rectangles
(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(4) 1″ x 2″ rectangles
*(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
*(12) 1½” x 1½” squares
*(4) 1″ x 2½” rectangles
*(20) 1″ x 1″ squares
From the dark sky fabric, cut:
*(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
*(4) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
*(1) 1½” x 1½” square
From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(16) 1″ x 1″ squares
(4) 1½” x 1½” squares
*(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
*(4) 1½” x 1½” squares
*(16) 1″ x 1″ squares
Unit Assembly
Half Square Triangles (HST)
Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Unit measures 1½” square. Make 4.
Flip Units
Mark the wrong side of a white 1″ square diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a teal 1½” x 2″ rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press.
Unit measures 1½” x 2″ rectangle. Make 4. Repeat to make 4 more with the flip corner on the left.
Foundation Paper Piecing Unit
Download the foundation paper piecing patterns here.
Follow the numbered sequence to complete each unit using scraps of the teal, dark sky, and white fabrics.
Make 4 middle sections measuring 2½” x 3½” rectangle and 1 center section measuring 2½” square.
If you don’t wish to foundation paper piece follow the instructions below to make the middle and center sections:
Flying Geese (Only do this step if you are NOT doing the Foundation Paper Piecing Unit)
Mark the wrong side of a white 1″ square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a white 1″ square on the other end of the triangle.
Unit measures 1″ x 1½” rectangle. Make 4.
Mark the wrong side of a teal 1″ square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a dark sky 1″ x 1½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1″ square on the other end of the triangle.

Additional Half Square Triangles (Only do this step if you are NOT doing the Foundation Paper Piecing Unit)
Mark the wrong side of the teal 1½” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a white 1½” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Trim unit to 1″ square. Make 8.
Block Assembly
Middle Sections (Only do this step if you are NOT doing the Foundation Paper Piecing Unit)
Sew a teal 1″ x 2½” rectangle to the bottom of the dark sky/teal Flying Geese unit. Layout two teal/white 1″ HST, a teal/white and a dark sky/teal 1″ x 1½” Flying Geese unit, and two white 1″ squares into two rows as shown in the diagram below.
Sew the pieces into rows, then sew the rows together. Sew this unit to the bottom of the previous unit to complete the Middle Section.
Unit measures 2½” x 3″ rectangle. Make 4.
Block Center (Only do this step if you are NOT doing the Foundation Paper Piecing Unit)
Sew a teal 1″ square to each end of a white/teal Flying Geese unit. Make 2.
Sew a white/teal Flying Geese unit to each side of a dark sky 1½” square.
Sew the rows together to make the Block Center.
Unit measures 2½” square. Make 1.
Corner Sections
Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to the side of a white 1½” square. Sew a teal 1″ x 2″ rectangle to the bottom of the unit.
Unit measures 2″ square. Make 4.
Sew a Flip unit to a HST as shown below. Sew a flip unit to the side of the first corner section unit using the image below as a guide for orientation.
Unit measures 3″ square. Make 4.
Putting it all Together…
Layout the block sections as shown below. Sew into rows, then sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 7½” square.
