Cutting Instructions:
*If paper piecing, add 1/2″ to measurements in bold.
From the white fabric, cut:
(28) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares (leave (1) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ if paper piecing for the center square)
(6) 1″ x 1″ squares
From the red fabric, cut:
(22) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
From the black fabric, cut:
(5) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares

Assembly
Half Square Triangles
Mark the wrong side of the white 1 1/2” squares in half diagonally once Set one white 1 1/2″ square aside for block center). Lay a marked white square over a red 1 1/2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press towards the red.
Trim each Half Square Triangle to 1″ square. Make 44.
Repeat to make 10 white and black Half Square Triangles.
Row One
Sew seven Half Square Triangles together with a white 1″ square as shown below. Make 2.
Row Two
Sew seven Half Square Triangles together with a white 1″ square as shown below. Make 2.
Row Three
Sew seven Half Square Triangles together with a white 1″ square as shown below. Make 2.
Side Row
Sew six Half Square Triangles into two rows as shown below. Make 2.
Sew a side row to each side of the white 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ square.
Block Assembly
Layout the rows as shown below and sew together to complete the block.
Block measures 4 1/2″ square unfinished.
