Our nostalgic block series continues with #3, Ellie’s Elephant!
This block is a simplified version of an elephant block designed by Oppenheimer & Haas that appeared in Woman’s Home Companion in 1928.
Our vintage block series features blocks that are AQS original designs inspired by nostalgic sources.
Have fun with blanket and background fabric choices! Is he in a circus tent? Or is he in Africa, Asia, or your back yard?
Love the elephant pattern
Wish I could see a picture of the vintage quilt in Woman’s Home Companion in 1928. Thank you.
is there a block number one in the vintage quilts from woman’s home companion?
Hi Lily. The series of blocks we are sharing feature blocks that are in-house original designs inspired by nostalgic sources and are not reproductions from a vintage quilt. The first block in our series, Blaine’s Plane, can be found at: http://www.quiltviews.com/free-pattern-blanes-plane. It was inspired by a 1933 Aunt Martha pattern. We hope you enjoy this series and we would love to see images of your completed blocks. Let us know if you have any more questions. Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
Thanks for the elephant pattern. Came on a perfect day. Today is the first Birthday of our baby elephant at the Tucson AZ zoo. There will be a big celebration at the zoo this weekend. The baby weighs only 5,000 lbs and is very active. So cute.
