Cutting Instructions:
From the white fabric, cut:
(1) 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” square
(4) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares
(4) 1” x 1 1/2” rectangles
(4) 1” x 1” squares
From the red fabric, cut:
(1) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” square
(4) 2 1/8” x 2 1/8” squares
(4) 1” x 1” squares
Assembly:
Flying Geese Units
Mark four red 2 1/8″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay two red marked squares over a white 3 1/2″ square in diagonally opposite corners. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press.
Lay a red square over the corner of the white triangle. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press. Repeat with the other white triangle.
Trim Flying Geese to 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle. Make 4 Flying Geese.
Square in a Square Unit
Mark the wrong side of the white 1 1/2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square, right sides together, in the corner of the red 2 1/2″ square. Sew on the marked line. Trim a 1/4″ and press.
Repeat for the other three corners.
Unit measures 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ square.
Corner Units
Sew a red 1″ square to a white 1″ square. Make 4.
Sew a white 1” x 1 1/2” rectangle to the top of the squares.
Unit measures 1 1/2” square. Make 2 with the square to the left and 2 with the square to the right.
Block Assembly:
Sew a Flying Geese unit to each side of the Square in a Square center.
Sew a Corner unit to each end of a Flying Geese unit. Make 2.
Layout the rows and sew together.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 4 1/2″ square unfinished.
